Oxygen is a form of GAS. It is one of the
most abundant elements on Earth. It makes
up a fifth of our air.
Oxygen is found in water and many different
rocks. Most of the weight of water, and half
that of rocks, comes from the oxygen in them.
Fire needs oxygen to burn, and almost all
living things need oxygen for breathing and
to give them the energy to stay alive.
Animals need extra oxygen to move about,
whilst plant life gives out extra oxygen to
the air during the process of photosynthesis.
